Monumentum is an architecture and design practice founded in 2024. Based in Seoul, we are a group of young and passionate professionals operating across disciplines and scales.
Our practice is driven by one shared mission: to enhance our built environment through the work of serene and lasting impressions. The task at hand is not simple, as the only constant at play in our digitized world is the ever-accelerating pace of change. We embrace the challenge head-on, and practice architecture to foster collective and individual memories. In doing so, we aspire to create tangible work that evokes a sense of place and belonging.
Our language of creativity is Exactitude, expressing abstract ideas into concrete and precise work of architecture. As an amalgamation of art, science, and engineering, architectural design follows a messy process, and rightfully so, given its ever-increasing complexity. We revel in the thoughtful iterations of collaborative efforts among creative professionals. And in doing so, we strive to craft and refine unapologetic work of clear intentions.

모뉴멘텀은 2024년에 설립된 건축 디자인 스튜디오입니다. 서울을 기반으로, 디자인 영역의 다양한 분야와 규모를 넘나들며 작업하는 젊고 열정적인 전문가 집단입니다.
우리의 디자인은 하나의 공통된 목적의식에 기초합니다. 찰나에 사라지는 유행을 쫓기보다, 오랫동안 향유할 수 있는 시간의 가치를 디자인에 담아내어 건축환경의 개선에 일조하고자 합니다. 변화가 일상이 되어버린 디지털 시대에 이는 결코 손쉬운 목표가 아닙니다. 우리는 현시대를 정면으로 마주하며, 건축을 매개로 개인과 공동체의 기억을 가꾸어 나갈 수 있는 작업을 지향합니다. 이를 토대로 고유의 장소성과 소속감을 느낄 수 있는 공간을 지어가고자 합니다.
우리의 디자인 언어는 ‘정확성 Exactitude’입니다. 건축은 추상적인 아이디어를 물리적으로 구현시키는 구체화의 작업으로서, 예술, 과학, 그리고 공학이 정교하게 융합돼어야하는 일련의 과정의 결과물입니다. 오늘날 점차 다양한 분야가 얼기설기 얽혀감에 따라 이를 아우르는 건축 디자인은 필연적으로 복잡하고 비선형적인 프로세스를 따릅니다. 우리는 창의적인 전문가들과의 협업을 바탕으로 신중하게 반복되는 프로세스를 반기며, 그 과정에서 우리의 명확한 의도가 담긴 디자인을 정교하게 다듬어 나가고자 합니다.

Sungjoon Hong AIA is the founder and principal of Monumentum. He earned his Master in Architecture II degree from Harvard Graduate School of Design in Cambridge, MA and Bachelor of Architecture degree from Sungkyunkwan University in Suwon, South Korea. He was the recipient of Dean’s Merit Scholarship at the GSD and Haeng Mok Grand Award at his alma mater. Prior to founding Monumentum, Sungjoon worked on a range of high-end residential, commercial, and cultural projects for offices in Seoul and New York. He is a registered architect in New York State.

홍성준은 하버드 건축대학원과 성균관대학교에서 건축학 석사 및 학사학위를 각각 취득하였다. 뉴욕과 서울에서 다년간 하이엔드 단독주택과 고택, 펜트하우스 및 상업시설의 신축설계와 레노베이션 작업을 담당했으며, 2024년 귀국 후 모뉴멘텀을 설립하였다. 미국 건축사 협회 정회원이며, 현재 성균관대학교 건축학과 설계스튜디오에 출강 중이다.
